    Police Department
Are solicitors allowed to come to my house?
Solicitors are allowed to solicit in the Borough with a Borough issued permit from Cresskill.  Always ask to see a valid Cresskill Solicitor's permit before interacting with any solicitor at your door.  Should you feel the person at your door is suspicious, please call the Police Department and an Officer will be dispatched to confirm whether or not the person is authorized to solicit.

Can I obtain a copy of a Police Report?
Yes.  You need to fill out and submit a form at our headquarters.  The form is called an O.P.R.A. (Open Public Records Act) form.  After proper completion and submission of this form to our Records Division, you will typically receive a copy in 5 buisness days either by picking it up at our headquarters or by mail.

Can I park my car in the road when it's snowing regardless of what time of the day it is?

No.  Vehicles are not allowed to be parked on any street in Cresskill when the road is snow covered.  The D.P.W. has to plow the road and your vehicle can not obstruct their path.  Vehicles that are parked in the snow covered roadway are subject to a summons and/or towing at the owner's expense.

Does the police department check on vacant houses for resident's while they are away?
Yes.  The Police Department has a list of residents that participate in our vacant house program.  Every day officers will check the houses on the list to make sure that everything appears fine.  If you would like to be added to the list you should call the Police Department.  You will be asked several questions over the phone such as if there are any vehicles going to be left on the property and if so what are their license plates, are there lights on with or with out timers, did you stop your mail and papers, is anyone supposed to be coming to the house during the time it is vacant,etc...
To be added to our list if you are going away, please call the non-emergency number to the Police Department at 201-568-1400

Is there a call in program for Senior Citizens?

Yes.  The Police Department has a Senior Citizen Call-In Program where members of the program check in with us on a daily basis, usually in the morning between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00am.  Should a member fail to check in with us, we will call their house to determine if they are ok.  If we can not get an answer on the phone, an Officer is dispatched to their residence to physically check in on the member.
If you wish to become a member of our Senior Citizen Call In Program, please call our non-emergency phone number at 201-568-1400 and one of our Dispatchers will get all of your information so we can quickly add you to our list.

My power is out, should I call the police to see when it is coming back on?
No.  During power outages, the Police Department's emergency call volume increases dramatically, responding to various emergencies all over town.  If you have an EMERGENCY during a power outage please call us.
However, if you are inquiring as to when power will be restored, just like you we do not know.  When you call the Police Department to find out when the power will be back on you prevent our Dispatchers from answering other calls with true emergencies pending.  So, please call your electric power company and they will be able to tell you when your power will be back on.  Again, If you have an emergency please dial 9-1-1 or 201-568-1400.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

When does overnight parking begin and end?
Overnight parking in the borough is prohibited between October 15th and April 15th. Summons may be issued for violators. Click here if you would like to view the Overnight Parking Ordinance.
